Naturally Nutty & Yen Yoga in Michigan

So, I just returned from a VK in Michigan. And it was surprisingly fabulous! I guess I never thought of Michigan as a must-see destination. I was wrong.

Tourist highlights:  All the lakes (including the obvious– Lake Michigan), amazing sunsets, sand dunes (undoubtedly made to throw yourself down in a series of cartwheels and somersaults), little [...]

My Documentary About Healing...

Ten years ago, I was in a sort of catatonic shock from my dad’s death. I thought my life had been destroyed– most of our possessions were repossessed or sold, we were kicked out of our home and I no longer had a dad. I was just turning 18 and I had no idea how [...]

I Have a Favor to Ask...

After finishing my academic *stuff* on Wednesday, I was left with a strange void and question in my mind… “What now?!” The feeling was too much for me

So, I went back to my second home (my MAC) and stumbled across a contest for the OWN Network. I was stoked to see [...]

Zico. Way Better Than Gatorade.

I am so hooked on these Zico drinks. They are especially enjoyable after a heated yoga class. Or while laying on a beach somewhere…

The best part about Zico is the nutrition label; basically just some coconut water and fruit (in the flavored ones). Zico also offers electrolytes, a potassium boost and has low-acidity. Compare [...]

My Favorite Veggie Burgers

If there’s a veggie burger out there, I’ve tried it. Here are my faves:

Organic Sunshine Burgers.  These are divine. They hold up on a grill and are especially good broken up in a tortilla with veggies. I especially like ’em because they are free of textured vegetable protein (TVP). TVP is a highly processed product which causes [...]

Honest Tea

Thought I would share one of my favorite summer beverages:

Mmmmmm… Honest Tea beverages. I’ve sipped on almost all the flavors, and every one is fabulous.

I love ‘em for so many reasons:

The teas and punches are organic and fair trade… The unsweetened teas are flavorful… The sweetened varieties use just a bit of organic cane sugar… The [...]

Tote Bag With a Message

I love the message on this bag:

Organicville Sesame Teriyaki Sauce

Here’s my new favorite stir-fry sauce and tofu marinade:

Sweetened with agave, all organic ingredients, 25 calories per tablespoon and only 1 gram of fat– now that’s a good recipe. There’s a nice dose of salt, but not excessive for a bottled sauce. Check out the website for more info.

For [...]

Heritage Flakes

Looking for a good healthy cereal? Here’s one of my personal faves:

Heritage Flakes from Nature’s Path Organic… yumm. Top with some organic blueberries and it’s breakfast bliss.

The cereal is a blend of ancient whole grains; Kamut, wheat bran, spelt, oat, barley, millet and quinoa. It’s low fat, low cal, low in [...]

Eco Bales

My hubby was in the landscaping business for many years. I was always shocked by the stories he would tell me about how wasteful and toxic the industry is. This is an industry that needs to be cleaned up.

First step:  Take care of your own health (and others) by NOT using toxic chemicals on your lawn. You’ll save some cash and the [...]

Beans, Beans the Magical Legumes…

Here’s my cowboy salsa recipe and my quick & easy hummus recipe… apologies in advance for my lack of recipe writing skills. I can’t follow them and I can’t write them…

Cowboy/Cowgirl Salsa

1 can black beans

1 can black-eyed peas

About 1 pound tomatoes (best with romas), chopped

1/2 [...]

Tarte Mascara

There ARE toxic chemicals in our cosmetic products (see earlier post on personal care products, visit the Cosmetic Safety Database, check out Not Just a Pretty Face- book and website).

For many years, finding a healthy makeup that actually performed was practically impossible. Thankfully, there has been a lot of progress in the development of quality products that aren’t full of chemicals. This development is making the switch to healthier products much [...]

SKYR it up.

A good yogurt is hard to find. Many of them are full of artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners and sourced from inhumane and unhealthy dairy corporations. Though I’m mainly a vegan, I tend to crave a yogurt every now and again… and some good cheese… ooh and a bit of ice cream… yummm…

Anyway, back to the yogurt, it’s called SKYR and [...]

Are You Psychic?

If you’ve never perused the website for the Institute of Noetic Sciences then now is the time. I look it up every now and again to see what kinds of funky, out-of-the-box topics they’re discussing. I absolutely love the way the Institute describes their work:

“[The Institute] conducts and sponsors leading-edge research into the potentials and [...]

Swami Baby

Imagine this saying wriggling around on a little onesie– how cute! For those attending a baby shower soon– here’s a great gift idea (if you live in MN, pair it with a Sweet Cheeks gift certificate and you’ll make mama and baby very, very happy).

Katie Holley, designer and owner of Swami Baby offers these wonderful onesies and the [...]
