Finally, the product we’ve all dreamed of… Or, I suppose, waited hopelessly awake for…
Cute little pink gelcaps made especially for those ladies who have trouble sleeping. The commercial reminds us; “Find it in this cute little package that looks like a purse”. Yup, pink gelcaps tucked inside a purse-shaped pink cardboard box. In addition to the cheesy marketing, I have a few concerns with this new sleep-aid product called, “Sleep Pretty in Pink“:
Who’s making and selling this product?
Herbs and other supplements are essentially an unregulated industry (Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing… but that’s another discussion. Check out the DSHEA for more on FDA regulation). Without regulation, the importance of purchasing these products from trusted sources becomes vital. A trusted source may be an experienced herbalist or a larger supplement company that has a commitment to purity and safety. Sleep Pretty in Pink is a product of DAP World. DAP World also puts out the following products: “Hearos” ear plugs in various colors, “Snap ‘n sip” can cover and “Studiophonic” in-ear speakers. Oh yeah, also some “Skull Screws” (made for auto races and loud concerts):
If a company has a diverse selection of products, find out what their focus is and decide if you can trust that they have taken every step to assure a safe, pure and effective product. Would you get your prescriptions filled at Jiffy Lube? If not, then don’t purchase herbs from a company that specializes in ear plugs, makeup or vacuums.
What’s in the product?
Often times, companies that jump on the supplement bandwagon go after the “more is better” philosophy. Additionally, companies might market their “special formula” as a breakthrough cure-all recipe. It looks to me like Sleep Pretty in Pink Googled “herbs and amino acids for sleep” and then stuck everything they found in a gel cap. Bad idea. They have a crazy mix of extracts, herbs, amino acids and hormones in this blend. Where’s the research to back up the safety of throwing all these things together? Unless this is a tried-and-true recipe that has been passed down through the generations, then there is absolutely no support for this “special blend”.
I’d stay away from Sleep Pretty in Pink and try relaxation exercises and nutritional changes instead. If that didn’t do the trick, I would go see a trusted herbologist- not an ear plug manufacturer.

“I would go see a trusted herbologist” is that because you are a herbologist? Noise is not the prime resonse for the ear plugs- “not an ear plug manufacturer.” (I do not use the ear plugs, yes, the pacaging and plugs are a marterkers dream). Take your self to a neurologist, discover what sleep depravation can do to you.
Thanks for the response CeCe
Unfortunately, I’m not an herbologist- I’d love to be though!
Sleep disorders can be a complex issue. Indeed, a neurologist could be the right person to see. It’s possible that a person may be dealing with a serious neurochemical, neuromuscular, degenerative or structural dysfunction that may be affecting sleep. However, and quite thankfully, many of us who have general sleep concerns can heal these problems without MRIs, drugs or even herbs. Relaxation techniques (counseling, meditation, yoga, MBSR and many others) and attention to nutritional changes can provide significant benefits.
Of course, a chronic sleep condition or something more serious (like breathing difficulties, those brain dysfunctions listed above, etc.) would call for a Doc appointment to address the issue. There’s no question on that.
For those interested in herbs, Sleep Pretty is offering an herbal solution for the common sleep complaints. The important thing for people to remember is that if they are going to purchase herbs, they should get them from a reputable source. Unfortunately, Sleep Pretty is not a reputable source.
My initial response to these is if they block out a husband snoring, they could also potentially block out a smoke alarm, carbon monoxide dectector, someone breaking in, a crying child, a barking dog, etc. Common sense says it just doesn’t seem safe!
I agree mendy. I would be too nervous to sleep if I had ear plugs in. I would wonder if I had missed something- especially my alarm.
Although, I’ve heard some horror stories of significant others who sound like tractor trailers during the night. I would imagine ear plugs would then be necessary for sleep and sanity.
I have tried these sleeping caplets and they are BY FAR the best thing I have ever tried. And now it seems that places like wal-greens and cvs will not be carrying them anymore. Bummer!!
As far as the earplugs. I have used them multiple times and have never had a problem. They usually fall out at some point in the night anyway but I stay fast asleep.
I tried these for the first time about a month ago. I do not use them nightly, only occasionally, especially when things have gotten me extremely stressed out. They do work – help me fall asleep and stay asleep, but I do not like the “sleep hang-over” feeling I have the next day. The next time I try them, I think I will use only one capsule and see if that makes a difference. As for the earplugs, they are great. They help cut down the sound of my husband’s snoring by over half, which also helps me fall asleep quicker. As Teri noted, they usually fall out at some point during the night, but on the nights they don’t, I still hear my alarm in the morning and on the few occasions my son has called home from Iraq, I have heard my cell phone as well.

I found this on going discussion, because I’m looking for Sleep Pretty, now not found in cvs and walgreens, bummer. I am using tylenol sleep tabs, which work but I have to deal with the sleep hang over as mentioned by Amy. I’m sleeping in my basement on an air mattress, it’s cooler for the hot flashes, and most important quite. I’m at this result because my husbands snoring is bad. The ear plugs worn all night every night leave my ear very painfull. I suffered through 3 years of very little sleep and finally after a very busy and hectic summer I had some sort of a break down. It affected me for months. Now I put my sleeping in priority. Because life is what is, many days are stressing which leads to difficult nights of sleeplessness. Sleep aids have been an easy fix, sad to say. If and when I have the time I’ll get to a local Pharmacists who deals with Homeopathic answers for menopause and sleeplessness. Hope all are sleeping well. Thanks for sharing

I say “get rid of the snoring husband” Problem solved!
Hilarious Sweetie! Love it
Mardi, thanks for sharing. Lack of sleep can have SO many effects to the body and mind. Take care- I’ll be wishing you many nurturing and replenishing nights of rest.
Thankfully, there has been a lot of promising research for safe herbal treatments to bring relief from some of the symptoms that may accompany menopause. Many Docs who specialize in women’s health are becoming aware of these options. Hopefully, they’ll start to integrate them more into practice…
These pills work great for me. I have serious sleep problems and all of the meds that the doctors have given me either didn’t work at all or left me with a hang over in the morning. A friend suggested them and I tried them to please her. They worked great! Now I can’t find them at any of the places I did get them. I am back to square one! My husband doesn’t snore, so I don’t use the ear plugs. But my son who is in a rock band does. He says they are better than the others he has tried.
I have tried many over the counter sleep aids and this has been the best product for me with no sleep hangover..Its becoming hard to find in stores..I cant use the earplugs, find them bothersome, but I recommend this product for friends and family when they mention sleep problems
