Thukdham

On September 14th his eminence Labsang Nyima, the former Gaden Tripa passed away in the South Indian Tibetan settlement of Mungod.

Now here’s the really interesting part… this “high lama” (a name given to Tibetan clergy), stayed in “Thukdham” for 18 days after his death. Thukdham is described as a period of time after death where the deceased remains in a meditative state. During the Thukdham period, the body does not decompose and remains at a constant internal temperature. Remember, this is in India where the temp is a steamy 90 degrees Fahrenheit and the Lama was probably placed in a location without air conditioning- the perfect recipe for decompostition.

I encourage you to read the full article and share your comments here. It’s pretty mind-blowing. What do you think, is this possible?

Is this for real? So, is his soul still in the body?

I’d believe it’s possible and it was documented here in the states in 1952. When Paramahansa Yogananda (“Autobiography of a Yogi,” first printing in 1946) entered “mahasamadhi,” Indian word closely related to thukdham, a Los Angeles mortuary director in charge of the body sent a notorized letter to the yogi’s closest followers….”No physical disintegration was visible in his body even twenty days after death.”

I’ve been to the yogi’s oceanside retreat in Encinitas several times and his presence is still there, filling visitors with strong healing energy.

This is wild. And kat, 20 days after death? That’s crazy! I can’t wrap my mind around all this!
